The Congress
This is one of Irish musics most popular tunes. It is in the key of A minor. Notice in the second part that I hint at an A major chord during the A minors by playing a C# on the G string, sixth fret.

The Congress with substitutions
The most important feature of this tune is the chromatic run in the first part from A to E on the middle D string. In the transcription of the tune I have used the chord names that make the chord easiest to recognize, but there is a more technical way of looking at it. Each chord in the chromatic run could be seen as a version of A minor with the chromatic run meaning one new note - one semitone lower - in each version. The chord names would then be:
A minor / Aminor major7th / A minor7th sus4 / A minor6th sus4 / A minor b6 / A minor7th
The most important thing however is to hear the harmonic effect of the chromatic run and to get it "in on" your ear.
I briefly imitate the melody in the B part of the tune oscillating between the E minor and the open D. I also hint at the chromatic passage very briefly.
